Vice President Kamala Harris Hosts Historic Hip-Hop Celebration at Her Home

Vice President Kamala Harris marked the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop with an unprecedented celebration at her residence, attended by over 400 guests. In this unique event, Harris emphasized the genre’s profound impact on the world and its significance within the Black community, as reported by The Hill.

The star-studded guest list included renowned artists such as Common, Jeezy, MC Lyte, Roxane Shante, Fat Joe, and others. The highlight of the evening was Lil Wayne’s performance of “Mrs. Officer.”

During the celebration, Vice President Harris spoke about the Biden administration’s commitment to the arts, with a particular focus on hip-hop’s role in American life. Videos shared on social media captured moments of Harris dancing with attendees, demonstrating the joyful spirit of the event.

Prominent members of the Congressional Black Caucus, including Chairman Rep. Steven Horsford (D-Nev.), Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.), and Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.), were also present, mingling and dancing with the enthusiastic crowd.

Born and raised in Oakland, Vice President Harris has long been an advocate for the arts, especially programs that promote diversity and inclusivity. Her residence, located at 1 Observatory Circle in Northwest DC and situated on 13 acres, has a rich history, originally built in 1893 for the superintendent of the Naval Observatory.
