Israel Adesanya made a brief appearance at the UFC 293 post-fight press conference to address his loss to Sean Strickland in the main event, which cost him the UFC middleweight title. Adesanya lost by unanimous decision, and despite suffering a knockdown in the opening round, he survived the onslaught and fought through all five rounds.
Adesanya began by paying respect to Sean Strickland for his victory, acknowledging that Strickland was the better man on the night. He also mentioned that he had a different plan for the post-fight conference but decided to keep it brief.
He expressed his desire to be with his loved ones and his team, who were waiting for him. Adesanya then handed the microphone over to his head coach, Eugene Bareman, stating that Bareman is much smarter than him and would handle the conference.
Adesanya later posted a video on social media, showing the damage he sustained during the fight with Strickland. He assured his fans that he’s doing well and that nothing is broken, despite the physical toll of the bout.
While the loss to Strickland was undoubtedly a setback for Adesanya, he remains one of the top fighters in the UFC’s middleweight division. He will now take some time to regroup and assess his next steps before making his return to the octagon.
