Amid the intensifying conflict between Russia and Ukraine, General Mark Milley, the head of the U.S. military, issues a sobering warning regarding Kyiv’s limited window for its counter-offensive against Moscow. General Milley suggests that Ukraine may have only 30 to 45 days left to execute its counter-offensive due to impending adverse weather conditions that could severely impede military operations.
During an interview with the BBC’s Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg, General Milley emphasized that once the rainy season commences, maneuverability for Ukrainian forces will become exceedingly challenging. This added urgency places significant pressure on Ukraine’s efforts to push back against Russian aggression, particularly as foreign aid workers increasingly find themselves caught in the crossfire.
Tragedy struck on Sunday in eastern Ukraine as volunteers from the Road to Relief NGO became embroiled in a devastating incident. The organization, primarily dedicated to evacuating wounded individuals from front-line areas, reported that their van was struck by Russian shells, resulting in the vehicle flipping over and catching fire. Four volunteers were trapped inside, and sadly, Canadian volunteer Anthony Ihnat lost his life in the attack. German medical volunteer Ruben Mawick and Swedish volunteer Johan Mathias Thyr sustained severe injuries. Spanish authorities later confirmed the tragic death of Emma Igual, a 32-year-old Spanish national who served as the NGO’s director.
Further highlighting the urgency of the situation, Kyiv endured a two-hour-long aerial assault in the early hours of Sunday. Ukrainian officials reported numerous Russian drones raining down on the city, leading to civilian injuries. As Ukraine’s time frame for substantial progress in its counter-offensive narrows, the international community watches anxiously, hopeful for a resolution but prepared for potential grim developments.
