Angus Cloud, a breakout star of the popular series Euphoria, tragically passed away in July due to an accidental overdose, the Alameda county coroner’s bureau confirmed.
Details of His Passing
The coroner revealed that the actor’s cause of death was “acute intoxication” from the combined effects of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and benzodiazepines. The incident occurred at his parents’ residence in Oakland on July 31. Angus Cloud was only 25 years old.
Career Breakthrough as Fezco
Hailing from Oakland, Cloud’s portrayal of the drug dealer, Fezco “Fez” O’Neill on Euphoria, quickly earned him legions of fans. Many believed he was just playing himself, given how authentic he seemed. Cloud, however, dispelled such assumptions. In an interview with Variety, he emphasized the depth he brought to the character and refuted the idea of simply “being himself” on screen.
His entry into the world of acting was nothing short of serendipitous. While walking in New York, casting scout Eléonore Hendricks spotted him. Cloud’s initial reservations, suspecting a possible scam, were allayed after meetings with casting director Jennifer Venditti and series creator, Sam Levinson. Consequently, he starred in Euphoria alongside Zendaya for two successful seasons.
Grief and Personal Struggles
His family’s statement following his death highlighted Cloud’s recent struggles, particularly dealing with his father’s demise. Cloud’s father, Conor Hickey, passed away in May from mesothelioma, a type of cancer often linked to asbestos exposure.
In the words of his mother, Lisa Cloud McLaughlin, Angus was grappling with grief but remained hopeful and was looking forward to supporting his family. Their last moments together were filled with love and promises of tomorrow.
Cloud’s pain was palpable in one of his final social media posts where he shared a heartfelt picture of his father, captioned, “miss u breh”.
The family’s statement poignantly conveyed their solace, “The only comfort we have is knowing Angus is now reunited with his dad, who was his best friend.”
